Letter from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates and the Executive Board Members,
On behalf of the Avalon Heights Model United Nations (AHMUN) team, it is my honour to invite you to the Second Annual Avalon Heights Model United Nations Conference. This year, the AHMUN will be held on the 21st and 22nd of November.
Model UN gives its delegates the ability to come forth, and raise their opinions, no matter what gender, race and economic background they are from. It cultivates students to grow into future leaders who are knowledgeable, confident, driven, and passionate to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of others. MUNs have kickstarted my leadership journey, and I hope it moulds other delegates to be determined, strong and confident to be the leaders of tomorrow as well!
AHMUN is founded on the premise of generating responsible leaders, who have the ability to think holistically and solve problems of global-magnitude. AHMUN is here to inspire a generation of young minds to be the change they want to see in the world. Whether it be debating on how to protect humankind from Racism, finding solutions to ensure the progress of the global economy, or saving the lives of countless people from the Coronavirus, delegates will be engaged in challenging debate that encompasses the true essence of MUN.
As we are in the midst of a pandemic, this year will be different in terms of how the conference is executed i.e. it will happen on the second Avalon Campus- MS Teams. However, I assure you that even in this online world, the AHMUN team will offer the same nurturing and challenging environment, as the real world, that allows our delegates to grow into the leaders of tomorrow. The AHMUN team and I are working tirelessly to ensure that this year’s AHMUN will be the best to come.
I request you all to rise above the challenges we have faced this year, with the belief that you can overcome obstacles by taking action and standing up for what you believe in. In the past several months, we have faced raging wildfires, a pandemic which has changed our way of life, multiple acts of racial injustice, and much more. It is our hope that delegates will have the courage to rise above the storm whether it’s overcoming an obstacle in committee or the real world. This will test the characters of our strong delegates and will prepare them for the upcoming challenges in their life as well.
